2015 Club Ballot

Members now need to opt in via the LTA Portal using their British Membership number by 31st January 2015.

February draws near and despite draws in the final matches of January, other results go our way and the top spots are still held by all the KETC first teams.

So far its been a good season with our new club members bedding in well to their teams. Also continuing to produce great results are KETC Mens 3, Mixed 1, 2 and 5 who also sit at the top of their respective divisions  with ladies 2 in second place in division 3.

As part of the agreed five year maintenance plan for KETC, the committee approved the refurbishment of the Men’s changing rooms in line with the ladies facilities.

Our thanks for these fantastic modern facilities go to club member Craig Bulter and colleagues, who undertook the work and ensured that, despite a few crossed legs, (Men - sacrifices have to be made) no court time was lost and the disruption was minimised to the weekend.

Happy New Year:

KETC Welcomes in 2015

Kent Elms Tennis Club wishes all its members and tennis friends  the best of Health, Wealth & Happiness for 2015.

only being decided in the final match. All in all it should be a cracking finish to the season with hopefully Kent Elms Tennis Club first teams completing the triple by winning all their respective division titles and our men's first team back where they belong, in Division 1 for 2015/16

FEBRUARY: As week 9 of the 2014/15 Winter league comes to an end for KETC Ladies, Mens and Mixed teams it sees all our first teams at the top of their respective divisions.

With the final week beckoning, KETC has five teams at the top of their respective divisions and two of our other teams in second just a few points off the top.

As with previous seasons all the players know its going to be a close run contest with the outcomes

FEBRUARY: Kent Elms Tennis Club  have won the Mixed division 1 title with a game to spare. This is a fantastic achievement from a team that just staved off relegation last season.

Following a hard fought match against Westcliff Hard LTC, who were in second place, they sealed the title with an emphatic 4 sets to 1 victory.

This meant that, even with a maximum point win, the nearest team would still be 10 points behind going into the final week and that mathematically

KETC could not be caught. The triumphant team on the night consisted of Steff Haddrell and Adam Yates who won their match 2-0 (6-2,7-5) with Martin Needs and Jo Hancock winning 2-1 (4-6,7-6,7-6).

Congratulations to the winning  2014/15 squad who  were, Jo Hancock (Captain), Steff Haddrell, Mandy White, Phil Stevens and Martin Needs.

Martin & Sue win McLellan-Perkins trophy for fifth year
Mar 14, 2015 19:25:00 PM GMT

MARCH: On a dry but cold night, the 2014/15 McLellan-Perkins Trophy finals took place at Kent Elms Tennis Club on Saturday 14th March 2015. The event was well attended by KETC members, family and other L&W LTA clubs who took full advantage of the drinks and refreshments available whilst enjoying the tennis.

In its 37th year a large crowd at Kent Elms Tennis Club watched  a very entertaining three set final umpired by Martin Powell as last minute replacements Andrea and Nick Spillet ensured reigning champions Sue Sergeant and Martin Needs had to work hard to retain the Mclellan-Perkins trophy  for a 5th time.

The first set was controlled by Nick Spillet who seemed to be all over the court getting to every ball with his mum Andrea providing a steady influence and finishing off perfectly. However, in the 2nd and final set experience started to show through as Martin and Sue worked hard to manoeuvre Nick out of the game and eventually run out winners 3-6, 6-4, 6-1

In the plate final, umpired by Jan Thorpe and won by Dawn Collins/Bryan Bone,  it was a battle of the experienced and, in what was a very tight match  both pairs dug deep using every trick in the book to gain an advantage.  With the crowd unable to call a winner and the match finely balanced with the scores at 4-6, 7-5  it was Roger Perham/Felicia Felice who had to unfortunately concede [Injury] before the deciding set.

Congratulations go to all those who participated throughout the tournament with a special thanks to Pat Townsley and Jo Hancock for organising together with ensuring the tournament and finals ran smoothly.

Finally a special mention to Brenda Lincoln and all the members who helped provide a magnificent buffet and ensuring drinks and refreshment were on hand throughout the finals.

KETC visit the Garden of Eden and other creepy sights
Oct 31, 2015 19:25:00 PM GMT

OCT: ASHBURY - The annual dash down to the west country took place once again in October with the group growing in size each year. This years visit to the Ashbury Hotel also included a trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall along with some brave zip wire antics above the grounds by the more energetic, some would say foolhardy, members of the party. As ever the weather took a shine and many of the indoor and outdoor pursuits were undertaken along with plenty of drinking games.

Halloween Get together

With the weather adding to the atmosphere 25 members attended a Fish and chip supper on what was a very foggy night. Our Thanks go to Phil and Debby who once again ran a very enjoyable quiz and social night.
